In his work across the expanded field of Spatial Practices and New Media, Graham Budgett fabricates complex metaphors that implicitly reflect upon the production & display systems of art while illuminating the pathos of individual & collective human subjectivity. He calls his practice ‘doing theory’ and ‘a scopophilic conceptualism’, but also ‘comedic’, and ‘allegorical not anecdotal’ – intending a critique of reductive, regressive, or reactionary tendencies in art theory & practice. Sickened by the atrocities of ‘market-forces’ at all cultural levels, not least the Gallery, he uses public space to publish and exhibit.
