ASSIGNMENTS

These are the 'defaults' for production, you can negotiate custom projects with the instructor. Start with the assignment level that fits your level of experience. Everyone will need to present work for critique on weeks three, six, & ten. [For works of longer duration we may need to set aside other times for viewing.]

Beginning assignment: a two to five minute 'silent short' - visuals are everything! [DUE THURSDAY, WEEK THREE]

Choose one:

- an inventory of things found in a particular situation

- document an activity, routine or otherwise

- a portrait of an entity presently unknown to you

- a history suggested by documented visual clues

Intermediate assignment: audio enhanced visuals [DUE THURSDAY WEEK SIX]

Choose one:

- a narrated 'report' ['voice-over' for writers/performers]

- a 'music video' approach to serious subject matter [for musicians/audio artists - your own soundtrack, other peoples’ visuals]

- document a conversation [dialogue – scripted or not]

Major assignment: a major documentary project of your choice [DUE THURSDAY WEEK TEN]

Choose one:

- a social documentary [or cultural if you prefer]

- an interactive archive [or other interactive video]

- a live video feedback installation/performance & it's documentation
