Dangling Modifier 1999 fans, feathers, wood, glass, screen. This site-specific work reflects the transformative nature of the Hotel space, it's architectural history a complex series of patched-on additions, and eventual complete demolition of the entry to the famed Miramar Hotel in Santa Barbara, California. The audience passes through partitioned walls to the stripped interior space, its disparate floor sections delineating the path of additions. Behind the large screened wall, fans distribute 200lbs. of upholstery feathers until they settle around a large hanging structure that is part bed, part banister railing. Glass etchings derived from archived planning permits reflect the many changes that have taken place.
