Masking as a "boy story," this confessional work takes on sexual politics
and expectations head-on. Using the fictitious character Vicki as a foil,
Fulbeck negotiates his own personal identity and self-validation through a
uniquely Southern California version of first sex gone awry. Told with a
blistering pace and outrageous sense of humor, Vicki in 3:30 reminds
us how close we really are to our own exterior roles.
Quicktime Movie (1.6 Mg)
"(Fulbeck's) narrative runs around like a chicken with its head cut off,
deconstructing everything in its path -- dating, gender roles, stereotypes,
and the whole notion of sexual conquest. We end up wondering who the
'winner' really is."
