Jane Callister

Professor
Painting & Drawing, Intermedia

Jane Callister is a painter who also works in a variety of other media to expand the boundaries of, and context for, her painting practice. Often incorporating digital media and sculpture/found objects etc. into her installations, Callister's work is both playful and rigorous- insisting on bridging the gap between intellectual and popular pleasures through a synthesis of the cerebral and physical aspects of an art praxis. Callister has exhibited nationally and internationally, most notably at the First Prague Biennale, Czech Republique in 2003; The New Museum, NY; The Frankfurt Airfair (2001 & 2002); Jette Rudolf, Berlin; Anton Weller, Paris; and at Umea Univeristet, Sweden. She is represented in Los Angeles by Susanne Vielmetter. Her recent paintings were included in: Vitamin P: New Perspectives in Painting, a comprehensive anthology of contemporary painting published by Phaidon Press (Oct 2002). She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
