Undergraduate

The Department of Art offers a B.A. degree in art at the undergraduate level. The undergraduate program is designed to provide the student with a thorough and comprehensive training, and an understanding of art as a humanistic activity, for students who wish to become practicing artists with a foundation which will prepare them for graduate work and professional school. Within the art major, students may choose to emphasize painting, drawing, print and book arts, ceramics, sculpture, photography, performance & video, electronic arts, computer arts and digital media with interdisciplinary forms. Student advising is available in the department through the undergraduate advisor and the graduate advisor. Students interested in pursuing graduate study should complete an emphasis within the major. Students planning teaching careers, especially the secondary (high school) level, should complete a wide range of studio courses in order to achieve the broadest exposure possible to the practice of art. The department's undergraduate advisor helps students in planning the appropriate coursework to meet their goals and objectives.
