mStudio

The mStudio is the Department’s digital image input and output lab with an emphasis on digital print and video-animation (as a complement to video production in the eStudio). It is equipped to handle the input of a variety of flat media, including film and oversized documents. The output equipment include laser printers, medium and large format inkjet printers, vinyl cutter, and drawing tablets. The lab has scheduled open hours which change quarterly.

mStudio is located in room 2336 in Building 534.

mStudio FAQ’s   –   Rm 2336

When can I come in?

You can find the mStudio schedule here.

Do I need to make an appointment?

You do not need to make an appointment unless you cannot come in during mStudio Open Hours. Access to computers and equipment (except Riso) in mStudio is based on a first come, first serve basis.

Will someone be able to help me during open hours?

mStudio Staff or Keisha will be present to help you.

Can I buy paper in Mstudio?

Mostly no, we have some 24” wide luster photo paper rolls leftover from another era. The rolls are available to use with our 24” wide Epson printer while supplies last. mStudio users need to bring in their own paper for the rest of the inkjet printers.

How do I pay?

Charges will be tallied throughout the quarter, your total will get charged to your BARC account at the end of the quarter

How do I use the vinyl cutter?

Keisha and mStudio student staff are available to help with the vinyl cutter during open hours.

How to prep for vinyl signage:

Vinyl files need to be in Adobe Illustrator with the text outlined. If you don’t know how to use Illustrator, we can help with that but you should look up fonts ahead of time so you have an idea of what you want before you arrive. It also helps to have everything written out on a word doc or google sheet, if you cannot make an Illustrator file.

Have at least a rough idea of the size you would like it to be. Expect to spend a minimum of 1 hour in mStudio to make the vinyl (longer if you do not have an illustrator file).  Students are welcome to come in and create their vinyl files on one of the computers in mStudio.
